Booking in the fall gives you time to order a part if one is needed, rather than discovering the issue on the coldest night.
Repair is usually right when the furnace is relatively young, the fault is a single component, and it has not needed frequent work. Replacement makes more sense when the unit is well into its second decade, repairs have become routine, or an inspection turns up a cracked heat exchanger. A cracked heat exchanger is a safety issue rather than a cost comparison, and we will always tell you that directly.

We also service furnaces in mobile and modular homes, which use equipment built specifically for manufactured housing.
A brief dusty smell on the first burn of the season is common, since dust settles on the heat exchanger over months of idle time and burns off. What is not normal is a persistent burning smell, an electrical or plastic odor, or the smell of gas. If any of those are present, shut the system off and call us before running it again.
